Accuplacer Test Prep

One thing on my radar for the next few years is prepping for possible Accuplacer exams. One of my son’s possible post secondary choices has the option of Accuplacer exams for admissions.

Placement exams unfortunately require some “teaching to the test” given how they are set up. For this reason, I have the Accuplacer test prep courses from @studydotcom saved to our dashboard.

One thing I quite like about @studydotcom are the pretests that they have for courses. Once completed, you receive a thorough breakdown of the answers you provided that were incorrect, what the correction is and then they link the relevant lessons in the course that you should review to “brush up” on that topic.

This can save you a lot of time in that if you get something like a 70% on the pre-test there’s a good chance that you don’t really need to go through every lesson. You may want to just tackle the 30% that you weren’t so confident in and then take the final test to see how you do.

Another aspect that I appreciate is that I’m not someone who incorporates a lot of multiple choice testing into the unit studies that I write. That said, I acknowledge that multiple choice tests are something that my kids are going to be expected to take a fair amount in post secondary. There is a definite niche skill set involved in studying for, comprehending and answering multiple choice questions on tests. Having them built into @studydotcom courses allows them to get the exposure and experience in taking these types of tests while also getting immediate feedback that is specific and helps them focus their time and attention where needed.
