Give your students the tools they need to understand themselves, strengthen relationships, and build lifelong habits for well-being. This comprehensive unit takes big, often overwhelming topics in mental health and makes them approachable, engaging, and relevant for today’s tweens.

This unit is geared for ages 9-12 as part of our new Wonder Years resource line. (If you’re looking for teen units check out Minds Matter and Intro to Anxiety).

Each lesson includes:

Student Facing Reading:  No text books needed - each lesson includes a reading on the topic that is levelled for this age group.

Activity: These are unique, creative and engaging. They’ll help students explore the concepts in the reading more thoroughly - and they’re fun!

Thoughts & Doodles Reflection: Reflection is a key part of learning. These mix writing and drawing to appeal to the age group and get them to practically apply their learning.

Some (but not all) all of the topics covered in this 16 lesson unit are:

  • What is Mental Health
  • Meet Your Nervous System
  • False Alarms & Safety Messages
  • Emotions & Feelings
  • Control & Boundaries
  • Confidence
  • Failures
  • Puberty & Mental Health
  • Friendships
  • Self Care & Calming Techniques

and more! Check out the course overview to see all topics covered.

It’s never too early to start teaching students about how to thrive. This age appropriate unit lays a solid foundation for a life long journey of understanding and caring for themselves. It will also give parents and teachers common language and reference points from which to talk with kids about these topics.

      Mental Health

Excellent resource. I did this study with ages 8,10, 12, and14 (with high functional autism) and we all had a good time. The boundaries, healthy friendships, explaining emotions and how to calm down were easy to talk about and discuss together. This is not covered in public school.

      Amazing resource

I have a 13 year old boy and this unit has been so helpful. We have done a few mental health workbooks and this has been a favorite. I love how there are chunks of information and then a short reflection after.
