Do you want to foster an understanding of real world cash flow in your kids/students? How about give them an opportunity to manage money, make investments, navigate debt, and make authentic choices regarding money and living within their means?
The Wonder Budget Simulation is designed to do just that. I wanted a fun, hands on way for my own children to get experience with managing money, understanding the types of expenses that adults are responsible for, how much of real life living requires money and to have practice making choices and learning in a safe place. The simulation can be run just as a simulation or it has Secret Missions and instructions for game-ifying the experience.
The simulation runs based off a calendar and you can run multiple days per "session". There are optional online transfer slips, cheques, credit cards, loan agreements, investment purchases, etc to make the simulation realistic. Kids are required to track and log all of their income and expenses on the various trackers so it's a great math resource as well.
I've also included blank cards so that you can create your own expenses, extra income opportunities or housing choices etc.
In my own middle years students I've already seen a massive growth in understanding expenses, the value of saving and living within their means and I hope it's a wonderful resource for your children and students as well!

I did this unit with my 6 kids aged between 10 -18. They all joined in and we did a few weeks worth of budget over a few weeks so it didn’t get to be too much or become boring for them. But each time we picked it up they loved it, and in between sessions, asked when we were going to do the next session. It was like playing a game for them, they found it so much fun. We could easily do this one again as they could decide to make different choices with different outcomes.
This was a particularly fun project for my son and I. We got a chance to sit down together and visit over it while he completed it. He worked through it twice in one year. I loved that it was multiple choice, so he could change the outcome from the last time, and it gave him freedom to make the life choices without real life consequences where he could have chosen more wisely in his spending.
We own many of the resources Monique has created and honestly, we love them all.
