The Lore - 1980s

English Language Arts Unit

The LORE is a new series of ELA unit studies that are academically rigorous, stretch students in comprehension, analysis, writing and all those things but by looking at a decade in time - the first being the 1980s. The 80s was bright, colourful, loud and fascinating to explore!

Anything can teach anything and ELA curriculums typically have the most flexibility on the content you use to teach the standard outcomes.

This high school level study is perfect for grades 9-12 and would be the equivalent of 30-40 credit hours. There are 12 lessons included but each lesson has multiple parts and an in depth ELA activity/assignment. A grade book and grading rubrics are included to make marking and record keeping a breeze.

As Much Fun for Me as My High Schooler

Thank you for this fantastic resource! My high school student is working through a contemporary US and World History course this year, and this unit has been the perfect complement. ELA is not his favorite subject, but now he is asking for more units like this one. He especially enjoyed the music video analysis and the Living on Prayer narrative lyric analysis. In addition to the engaging content, I appreciate all the side conversations that have been sparked by the lessons.
