Get ready to bring energy, laughter, and critical thinking into your high school (or middle school) English program with this comprehensive Humour Unit! (130+ pages)
While much of high school English explores heavier themes and difficult stories, this unit offers students a refreshing opportunity to build strong literary analysis and writing skills through humour and lighthearted storytelling.
Students will:
😂 Explore a wide variety of material: short stories, poetry, satire news, anecdotes, stand up comedy, sketch comedy, television cold opens, physical humour, a full length play, etc.
😂 Deepen understanding of literary and humour devices, recognize them in text and analyze pieces.
😂 Have ample opportunities to write various types of pieces in the humour genre and hone humour techniques.
😂 Study a variety of writers and performers such as Dave Barry, Lewis Carroll, Oscar Wilde, Nate Bargatze, John Mulaney, Mindy Kaling, Tracy Ullman, James Acaster and more.
You can expect:
☑️ Lessons that students can do independently.
☑️ Links to all material such as articles, short stories, videos, etc. They are all free and easily accessible. You will need internet access though.
☑️ Engaging graphics and design (ngl friends - this design is one of my favourites I’ve done lol).
☑️ A wide range of activities to engage the content through.
☑️ The entire “The Importance of Being Earnest” by Oscar Wilde play lesson pack is included in the unit. (You can also purchase this separately).

Such a great unit study for kids who love comedy. My student enjoyed putting the comedians playlists on repeat. She had many "Hey did you know this Mom" moments. Which is awesome. Very well layed out study.
